Typhon Capital Management has appointed Kevin O’Hara as chief strategy officer after serving for eight years on its advisory board.
O’Hara has over 20 years of complex transactional experience, both public and private, the firm says, adding, he has worked at the SEC and has been responsible for the legal affairs at two financial self-regulatory organisations and has taught at law and business schools as an adjunct professor.
At Typhon, he will be responsible for, among other things, building strategic relationships with institutional asset managers and developing new product lines to complement Typhon’s current specialty of tactical futures and crypto trading. He will also be helping the firm analyse the US and international landscape regarding M&A opportunities.
“I’ve been impressed with Typhon’s CEO, James Koutoulas, since the day I met him while lecturing at Northwestern Law School in 2005 and would ultimately describe him as possessing the SEAL Team 6 attribute of ‘being an expert in becoming an expert.’ James is not only an accomplished portfolio manager, software developer, and product structuring guru, but is also one of the most successful investor protection litigators in recent times,” says O’Hara. “Watching him start Typhon in his apartment in Chicago and grow it along with his dynamic team to over $250 million with product structuring capabilities outstripping most multi-billion-dollar firms has been remarkable. I look forward to joining the team and growing the firm substantially.”
Typhon’s chief investment officer, David Klusendorf adds,, “There are very few people in this industry with Kevin’s unique skillset. He understands Typhon’s culture and commitment to client-driven solutions which allows him to hit the ground running. He will be able to bring his M&A expertise to help us define and expand on the many opportunities in front of Typhon.”
