The Full FX Podcast: Currency Matters
Posted by Colin Lambert. Last updated: September 22, 2021
In the third and final instalment of the podcast series with the recently retired Lee Oliver, he and Colin Lambert talk about his exit, and return, to the FX industry in a third and fourth guise, journalist and then market analyst.
The two talk about Oliver’s reasons for quitting the industry in the 1990s, what happened next, and how he gyrated back to foreign exchange…in spite of his apparently strenuous efforts to avoid it. They move on to learning different market structures and how good ideas move across asset class boundaries; building a business within a global giant and then repeating the feat in a relatively nascent start-up; and share their thoughts on the London 4pm Fix.
There is also, of course, time for some off-piste observations; this week involving Lance Armstrong, Chopper Bicycles, spoof trading platforms, the son of Frankenstein, and three men in a lift. The podcast series closes out with a look at the FX world today, involving some characteristically brutally honest observations on life in the industry from Oliver – but then what else can one expect when talking with someone previously accused of bringing the FX industry into disrepute!
