Société Générale has hired Francisco Oliveira as co-head of global markets activities and head of fixed income and currencies (FIC), amidst a shake up in the bank’s management team.
The Full FX reported Oliveira’s departure from BNP Paribas at the start of October – he worked at the bank for more than 20 years and was last global co-head of Macro and Credit – and at SocGen he will work alongside Hatem Mustapha, who is also head of equities and equity derivatives. Mustapha is a 24-year veteran of SocGen, largely spent in the equities business.
Oliveira will report to both Anne-Christine Champion and Alexandre Fleury, co-heads of global banking and investor solutions (GBIS). Based in London, he will be part of the Group management committee and the GBIS executive committee.
Oliveira’s hire is part of a wider reshuffle that has seen Sylvain Cartier appointed head of global markets for the Americas, effective 1 January 2025. Relocating from Paris to New-York, he will report locally to Stephane About, CEO for Societe Generale Americas, and globally to Oliveira and Mustapha. He will remain part of the Group management committee.
Mohamed Braham has been appointed deputy head of FIC, effective 6 January Based in Paris, he will also report to Oliveira and Mustapha, and also remain part of the Group management committee. Previously he was global head of FIC trading.
“These appointments illustrate our ambition to pursue the development of our fixed income activities and reaffirm our leadership in equities,” say Champion and Fleury in a joint statement. “We are pleased to have Francisco Oliveira join our team. His 30 years of experience in global markets and his track record in fixed income are a strong fit for Société Générale. Together with Hatem Mustapha, they will pursue the implementation of our ambitious roadmap for global markets and deliver best-in-class solutions for our clients.”
