Morita Rejoins Nomura as Chief Economist

Just over 14 years after he left the firm, Kyohei Morita has rejoined Nomura Securities as chief economist, Japan, effective 1 August 2022. Takashi Miwa, the current chief economist for Japan, will remain as head of the economic research department of Nomura Securities and will continue engaging in macroeconomic research.
Morita joins from Credit Agricole, where he spent over five years as chief economist in Japan. Prior to that he spent nine years in the same role for Barclays in Tokyo – he joined the UK outfit from his first spell at Nomura, which he left as senior economist.
In his first spell, Morita joined Nomura Research Institute (NRI) in 1994. After spending three years in London at NRI Europe from 2001, he worked in the economic research department of Nomura Securities’ Financial & Economic Research Centre from 2004 to 2008.
