The Last Look…

Normal service will be resumed next week in this column, but I have to take this opportunity to express my absolute gratitude for everyone that made that week’s Full FX conference not only a success, but also contrived to give me a great send-off.
The feedback on the sessions was fantastic, and to have a full hall throughout the day reiterates how people engaged, so a thanks to our speakers, as ever, for giving up their time, and opinions. We could not have done it without our sponsors, so a thanks to them also, as well to everyone that turned up to support us.
On a personal note, the day went pear-shaped early when I had the unique experience of not interviewing LMAX Group CEO David Mercer, but by interviewed by him! It was totally unexpected, and all I can say is if he wasn’t building such a successful business there, he has a future as an interviewer. Along with the messages from friends who could not be there, David got the day off to a great start – even if I probably over-shared on one or two responses!
And, finally, (see what I did there long-termers?) when it comes to over-sharing, my “thanks” to the Full FX team for the work they put in on The Chat Show – For FX’ Sake. The minute one of my daughters appeared to run the discussion, I knew I was in trouble – and I was! Never have I been so glad of Chatham House Rules, because, as you can see from the picture below, it got uncomfortable!
It was, however, a great end to a great day, I got properly slaughtered, which is the way it should be, but actually got a little emotional at the end with both daughters on stage and a room full of people apparently giving me a good send off. Of course, they could have been clapping with relief that they don’t have to listen to me anymore…
I have more columns to write, so I’ll leave it there, I can promise you the rest of the year is not going to be a love-in, so I’ll start collecting my ammunition now.
