The Inheritors Series – Mercedes Ola

The Full FX’ Inheritors video series returns, with Colin Lambert talking to the always-engaging and impressive Mercedes Ola, sales director at Euronext FX. After talking about her journey into FX, including the important part played by mentoring, Ola talks about her current role and its wide and varied remit – something that really attracts her to the FX business. With a background in macroeconomics, Ola talks about the different challenges and opportunities that arise in different jurisdictions, as well as the need to understand, and leverage, the various nuances.

The two also discuss emerging trends in e-FX, including how data is being used, and distributed, in a very different fashion to when Ola first started in the role. AI is also discussed, with the observation that it might be currently viewed in the same fashion that voice sales used to eye the e-business, but will, as happened in the sales role, turn out to be a huge benefit to people working in the industry.

There is also time to talk about the growing role of internalisation, and how Ola’s clients are seeing this, as well as about areas that she sees as ripe for further growth. Not only is she optimistic about the future of the FX industry, Mercedes Ola lays out multiple reasons for the bright outlook, closing out with a few observations on her own path – does she really want to replace Lambert?
