Following earlier releases, LSEG’s Refinitiv reports it too saw a rebound in FX activity in September after a very quiet August, unlike some other venues to report, however, it also saw a year-on-year increase.
Spot turnover across its platforms was $89 billion per day, up 9.9% from August. While that is an underperformance compared to other spot venues who all reported double-digit increases, Refinitiv does outperform most on a year-on-year basis. While all but CboeFX and FXSpotStream (which reports across all FX products) saw a decline, Refinitiv’s spot volume is up 6% on September 2020.
In non-spot FX products, where Refinitiv has a steady volume profile, ADV was $346 billion per day, up 1.5% from August and 1.2% up year-on-year.
