Manuel Mondedeu, co-head of global FX at CIBC Capital Markets, has been named as the new co-vice chair of the Global Foreign Exchange Committee for a three-year term.
He replaces Simon Manwaring from NatWest Markets, who has held the role for the previous three years, Mondedeu will work alongside co-vice chair Stuart Simmons from QIC and Gerardo García, chair of the GFXC.
Modedeu, based in London, has been in his current role at CIBC for 17 months having stepped up from the role of global head of linear FX trading. He joined the Canadian bank in 2011 as an FX and STIR trader, before moving up to head that business in 2018. Prior to CIBC he spent just over two years at BBVA Asset Management in Madrid as FX and commodities fund manager, having joined from over four years at Vega Fund Holdings, where he was a portfolio manager. Mondedeu started his markets career at Deutsche Bank, where he worked for five years in Frankfurt as an FX and STIR trader.
In the announcement, the GFXC says Mondedeu brings valuable and practical insights to the GFXC’s mission of promoting best market practices. “His contributions have already been instrumental in advancing the GFXC’s objectives, particularly through his participation in the FX Settlement Risk Working Group and his active involvement in the Canadian Local FX Committee,” it states. “The GFXC is privileged to have him on board and looks forward to the positive impact his engagement will have going forward.”
