CME Group hit a new volume record for its FX futures and options products last Wednesday (14 September). The Merc says it handled 3,003,484 contracts in its venues, including Clearport, some 7% above the previous higher just over 2.8 million on 3 December 2020.
This is the first time CME has surpassed three million contracts, the exchange says that Open Interest also hit a new peak of 3.3 million contracts on 8 September, representing $295 billion in notional – a fraction above the $290 billion-plus the exchange said was registered on 10 May 2022.
Earlier this month, CME said its EBS Direct forwards platform had hit a new peak, up 65% year-on-year, however no actual volume data were provided. CME’s FX Link forwards platform on 14 September, registered just shy of $6.3 billion in notional, short of the $7.2 billion it handled on 16 June.
