February 8 marks the latest stage of CME Group’s venture into the crypto futures world when the exchange launches Ether futures.
CME says it is launching the contracts in response to “strong customer demand and a clearly articulated customer need”, the fact that Ether is the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation and volume probably didn’t hurt either.
January 2021 saw CME report record average daily volume in its bitcoin futures contracts at 17,500, (contracts are for five bitcoin), equally, the price of Ethereum has soared in 2021, from just above $700 at the start of the year, to over $1700 in the first week of February.
